Inpatient Services

Inpatient Services are services where patients stay in hospital one or more nights.  These are located at the Victoria General Hospital on 6 South and 5B.

6 South is a 41 bed inpatient acute care Neurosciences Unit specializing in caring for both neurologic and neurosurgical patients and their family.  The unit has beds for both neurology and neurosurgery and the health care team provides services, including but not limited to, head injuries, spinal cord injuries, brain tumors, strokes, intracerebral hemorrhages, seizures, spinal disc problems, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease.

The health care team on 6 South consists of physicians, residents, fellows, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, care aides, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, social workers, dietitians, home care coordinators and other health care professionals.  The goal is to diagnose and treat neurologic disorders and allow for rehabilitation and reintegeration back into the community in a safe and efficient manner while allowing for full health needs of the patient and their family to be addressed upon discharge.

5 B is an 8 bed inpatient sub-acute unit where patients are cared by a health care team to allow for more intensive rehabilitation than in the community, and to try and allow for early discharge home with improved functional outcomes.  The health care team is similar to the 6 South team with a higher ratio of therapists to help with rehabilitation.
