About Us

VIHA's Occupational Health & Safety Department offers a holistic approach to workplace health and safety that incorporates elements of prevention, promotion and rehabilitation into each of its programs.

Occupational Health and Safety programs are provided to VIHA employees by these teams:

The Disability Management Team develops and implements programs to manage disability claims and facilitate rehabilitation and return to work.

The Safety & Prevention Team develops, implements and monitors programs designed to promote employee health and wellness and prevent illness and injury.

Occupational Health & Safety advisors also participate in the following VIHA-wide committees:

Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOH&S) Committees are made up of worker and employer representatives working together with Occupational Health & Safety advisors to identify and make recommendations to resolve health and safety problems in the workplace.

The Regional Violence Prevention Committee is for worker and employer representatives to collaborate on preventative actions that address areas of concern the parties have identified as priorities, and support JOH&S Committees in their violence prevention role.
