Medical Quality Improvement

Quality Improvement (QI) has emerged as an effective professional development strategy, in addition to its role in improving patient care and service delivery efficiency. Similarly, there is strong evidence that feedback and coaching are essential for learning and improvement. The Medical Quality Improvement (MQI) program supports Island Health medical staff to:

  • Lead QI projects
  • Receive feedback about their patients and practice
  • Identify opportunities for professional development

Improving quality is the professional responsibility of each medical staff member. MQI supports practitioners to fulfil this responsibility by providing tools and support that can improve outcomes and practice efficiency.

MQI also supports medical leaders to ensure provision of high quality care, and engage their colleagues in quality improvement. Supports include:

  • Practitioner activity profiles (clinical feedback)
  • QI project support
  • Quality, coaching and leadership training (see Physician CPD)
