I.H.S. Medical Director Recruitment Now Underway

This message is on behalf of the Integrated Health Executive Medical Directors and Executive Directors:

In March 2015, Island Health began to realign leadership of its program, service and administrative structures to a more geographic, community-based model.  At this point, the leadership alignment has focused on the administrative ‘side’ of our co-management model. With this work now finalized, we are pleased to turn our focus to the Medical Directors.

As you are aware, our new leadership model recognizes people are better served when planning and decisions are made with the needs of local communities in mind. Communities have a unique understanding and knowledge of their local area and population. A more community-based model for health and care will improve how Island Health can support the long-term health of the population and needs of patients, clients and residents.

Co-leadership is a vital part of our leadership teams and remains a priority and commitment for Integrated Health Services. Co-leadership unites the physician and the administrative and operational functions within Island Health as one team to jointly deliver health care. The Medical Director, working in a co-leadership partnership with the Director, shares responsibility for the overall operational management of programs and services within Island Health.

We are pleased to share with everyone that Integrated Health Services’ Medical Director positions in the new geographic, community-based model have been determined and posted. Positions have been posted through Physician Recruitment website http://www.viha.ca/careers/physicians/ and will be open for 2 weeks. Although we are shifting our leadership structures to strengthen community focused health and care, we remain one Health Authority.  Through our  emerging Clinical Governance Framework, the Quality & Safety Portfolio will be taking a leadership role in supporting quality and safety across all geographic and service areas.  More information about this structure will be shared over the coming weeks.
