Medical Leadership Restructuring Update

October 28, 2016

The following is on behalf of Dr. Jeremy Etherington, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer.

Dear Colleagues:

Here is a brief update on the Medical Leadership Restructuring process:

Recruitment to Operations Medical Co-Leadership Positions
I am pleased to report that nearly all Medical Director and Site Medical Director positions have been filled. These leaders are now working with their administrative co-leads to recruit 115 Medical Leads across Island Health. After the first round of postings, 56 Medical Lead positions received applications. Interviews are now underway for these positions. The remaining positions have been re-posted and are accepting applications. All interested qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

Appointments to Departmental Positions
Similarly, Department Heads have been busy appointing their Division Heads and Section Heads. Over half of Division Heads positions have now been appointed.

Organizational Charts have been posted at the bottom right of the physician website (click link) to clarify who is in what position, and which positions have been filled. These charts will be updated regularly. You can also contact your medical leader to confirm which positions have been filled.

Next Steps
Orientation and training supports will be available to all medical leaders. Orientation has begun for some positions. Co-leads are expected to participate in some of these activities together. The orientation and training will focus on core responsibilities, with additional training being available on an as-needed basis.

There is a tremendous amount of change going on at Island Health in effort to improve patient-centred care and experience. We thank you for your patience, support and commitment during this transition.

Best wishes,

JM Etherington MD
EVP and CMO
Island Health.
