Hearing Program

Program Purpose

Hearing Clinic Staff work with individual clients, professionals and agencies to identify children and eligible adults who are hard of hearing or deaf.  We provide follow-up services or link individuals to appropriate services, as needed.

 

 

Services

  • Assessment and monitoring of hearing levels
  • Hearing screening for all newborn babies
  • Hearing screening for all kindergarten students
  • Evaluation and fitting of hearing aids and FM equipment
  • Client and caregiver counselling and education about hearing loss and hearing aids
  • School student support for children who use hearing aids and/or FM equipment
  • Respond to general enquiries about hearing and hearing services
  • Workshops for families, caregivers, educators and other professionals

Population Served

  • Children, from birth to 19 years, 11 months 
  • Adults who receive funding through the Ministry of Social Development, who live in the Capital Region
  • People of any age who have developmental delay and who live on Vancouver Island

Accessing Services

  • Parents of preschool-aged children can call the clinic directly for appointments
  • Referrals are accepted for all clients from Public Health Nurses, Physicians, Speech-Language Pathologists and other community agencies/professionals
