Overview
Healthy Choices is a coordinated, integrated curriculum-based program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Healthy Choices aims to improve the health of school-aged children and youth by focusing on health issues that affect children and youth today including:
- Healthy eating
- Physical activity
- Body image
- Friendships
- Relationships
- Sexual development
- Communicable diseases
- Sexual decisions
Healthy Choices is based on the principles of Comprehensive School Health (CSH) which aims to improve students' health by providing classroom resources, promoting a healthy school environment, encouraging access to health services and promoting community action. Classroom Resources
Healthy Choices includes age appropriate, field-tested lessons for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, which meet learning outcomes for health as outlined by the B.C. Ministry of Education.
The lessons focus on knowledge acquisition, attitude exploration, building skills and changing behaviours. Additionally, health information required for teaching the lessons is included.

School Environment
Making healthy choices the easy choice is the focus of creating a healthy school environment. Healthy Choices includes strategies and resources for creating and implementing health policies, building positive social climates, promoting safe physical environments and encouraging meaningful student involvement.
Services
Children, youth and families sometimes need access to health services to address health issues. Healthy Choices includes information on regional and provincial health and social services. In addition, it includes a list of community organizations that provide health education resources and/or services to teachers.
Community Action
It takes all of us working together to improve child and youth health. Healthy Choices includes information on regional and provincial organizations that implement community events to raise the profile of child and youth health. It also provides suggestions for involving parents as partners in student health.
