New Graduate Transition

The New Graduate Transition Program is for new graduates from a post-secondary program in nursing (Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse).

A "new graduate" is someone who graduates between March 31, 2012 and April 1, 2013.

About the Program

VIHA has been successfully offering the New Graduate Transition Program since 2005. The program aims to provide future care providers with an opportunity to enhance clinical preparation as well as consolidate theory with clinical skills.

Through the program, new grads have access to:

  • An assigned mentor
  • A new graduate workshop
  • 2 to 6 weeks of supernumerary time, and
  • The possibility of a temporary full time rotation.

New Grad Responsibilities

New grads participating in the program are responsible for:

  • attending the new graduate workshop
  • collaborating with leadership to develop and use a learning plan
  • applying for relevant jobs that become available
  • consolidating practice
