1. I received a Camosun College scholarship, but am not a student there. Why is this?
Some VIHA Scholarships are administered in partnership with Camosun College. For these few scholarships, preference is given to VIHA staff who reach the specified criteria and are Camosun College students. If there are not enough applicants who meet the description above, the remainder of funds are allocated to VIHA staff members who reach the specified criteria and who are not Camosun College Students.
2. When will I receive my scholarship money?
Scholarship money is paid to the successful applicant within 4-8 weeks of submitting the information requested in the scholarship award letter. Your answer to the following question will help you to determine when you can expect your money.
Are you a recipient of the Idris Thomas and D.A. Baird Scholarships, also known as the BCIT and Camosun College scholarships?
If no, please submit your tuition receipts. The scholarship money will be added to your pay cheque 4-6 weeks after the date you submit receipt(s). The sooner you submit your receipts, the sooner you will receive your money.
If yes, please submit the form attached to your scholarship award letter. A cheque will be mailed to you at the address indicated on the form within 4 weeks following the deadline noted on the award letter.
3. How much money will I receive?
Scholarships award amounts vary depending on a combination of factors, such as:
- the type of fund that the applicant has been awarded
- the number of competing applicants in this fund category,
- the availability of funds, and
- the expected overall cost of the applicants educational program.
4. How will I receive the scholarship money?
If you are receiving a VIHA scholarship:
The money will be included on one of your paycheques.
If you are receiving an Idris Thomas or D.A. Baird scholarship, also known as Camosun College or a BCIT scholarship:
The educational institution will mail a cheque to your home address following receipt of your completed award form. Submit your award form to the Value & Recognition department, who will then forward it to Camosun or BCIT.
5. When is the deadline for submitting tuition receipts?
Note: This does not apply to recipients of the Idris Thomas and D.A. Baird Scholarships, also known as the BCIT and Camosun College Scholarships.
To receive your scholarship money, you must submit your tuition receipts before June 1st of the following year (the year after your initial application deadline).
For example, if your successful application was submitted before June 1st, 2006, you must submit your tuition receipts before June 1st, 2007.
