Initial Visit

After your doctor refers you to the clinic, a staff member will call to set up your initial visit with a Registered Respiratory Therapist who is also a Certified Respiratory Educator.

At the Centre, you will have your current level of asthma control assessed including pre and post bronchodilator spirometry testing (see diagnosing asthma), and will receive individual counselling and asthma management education as required.

The initial assessment requires approximately 1.5 hours to complete and a follow-up visit is booked for two weeks after the initial visit.

Reassessment Visit

Now that we know more about you and your asthma, the next visit will help you to acquire the skills needed to take an active role in your asthma management.

If control has been achieved, a personal Asthma Action Plan is developed. The action plan and test results, with interpretion by a Respirologist, are forwarded to your physician.

If control has not been achieved, further education sessions are provided as needed and/or the ACRCC may recommend referral to a specialist.  The reassessment visits require approximately one hour to complete.
