Welcome to Island Health

On August 1 st, we launched our new public website:

and a new website for medical staff:

Our website was developed in partnership with patients and residents of Vancouver Island and the surrounding regions. It's accessible, mobile friendly and flexible to help us evolve with our communities as we work towards excellent health and care for everyone, everywhere, every time.

Come visit the new sites and update your bookmarks. This www.viha.ca site will continue to be available for one month so that our staff and partners have time to update their links to the new site. You can still browse the old site but it will no longer be updated.

Driving and Transportation

The following resources for seniors are available to help seniors stay mobile in the community.

BCAA Older Drivers (BC-wide)

Safe driving is important for everyone. But as we age, experience can’t always make up for the physical changes age brings. See: BCAA Older Drivers

Victoria Regional Transit Accessible Services (Greater Victoria)

These pages are to help customers, caregivers and family members become familiar with accessible transit services. In addition, click "Contact Us" on the menu then scroll down for a free community travel training program. Trainers come to clients' homes to teach them about using the bus system.

BC Transit (BC-wide)

Find out about fares, bus schedules, maps, and accessible BC Transit services in your area.

Taxi Saver Program (Greater Victoria)

The Taxi Saver Program provides a 50% subsidy towards the cost of taxi rides. You will need to have a handyPASS to use this program.

Disability Resource Centre - parking permits (Island-wide)

Parking permits are for persons with disabilities who are unable to walk more than 100 metres safely. You need to send in an application form and pay a processing fee.
