Intake Process

Activity Helpers
Assist with various aspects of the social recreation programs -Gardening, crafts, musical activities, exercise, special meals. Minimum one 2-hour shift per week.
Bingo
Set up and clean up of tables and Bingo equipment; assist residents to and from the activity; assisting residents to participate; calling Bingo. One 2-hour shift on a Saturday and/or Sunday.
Bus Outing Assistant
Accompany a group of residents on an outing – either for a drive or for lunch. One 2-hour shift each week to accompany residents on a drive. Two 3 hour shifts each week to accompany residents to a pub or lunch outing.
Youth Volunteer
Young people between the ages of 13 – 18. Assist as meal companions, visit with patients and residents, assist with social activities. Daily - 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Orientation and training are held in September, January, and May.
Church
Encourage and support resident participation; assist residents to and from service; help resident follow along with hymns, enjoy a cup of tea with them following the service. Weekly on Sunday 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Entertainers
Choirs, musical groups or individuals, bands, dramatic groups, share your travels, games, special events. Time is arranged at the convenience of the performer(s) and the program.
Friendly Links
Be a friend, a visitor, or a companion to two or three residents who need some extra TLC. Training sessions begin in September 2004. Volunteers will work in a group setting prior to being assigned individual residents. Minimum of 2 hours per week as determined by the needs of the resident and the volunteer’s time available.
Meal Companion
Assist residents to enjoy the social activity associated with meals. Establish an environment conducive to enjoying a meal and encouraging the resident to partake in the activity. Activities include opening containers, cutting up food, serving tea and coffee, and assisting the resident to eat if necessary. Daily 1 to 2 hours – mostly the evening meal but other meal times are also possible.
Movie Assistant
Set up the area where movie is to be shown. Gather the residents for the movie and discuss it with them. Make and serve popcorn and drinks. Monitor the area while the movie is on, replenish drinks, and remove and add residents as necessary. Shut off TV at end of movie, rewind the tape and return to the Activity Office, Escort residents back to their designated areas. One 2 to 3 hour shift each week.

Outdoor Garden
Assist to provide a living environment using plant material chosen and grown by the residents. Help with horticultural activities such as preparing planters and hanging baskets for resident use. Planting, weeding, and watering the resident planned garden areas. Minimum of 2 hours per week as arranged.
Therapeutic Garden
Assist the residents to plan, plant, and care for their garden areas. Tasks include planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting. As scheduled by the Activity Department. April through October. Minimum 2 hour shift.
