BC Mammography Clinic
Assist Mammography technicians to provide a welcoming and calm environment for patients having a mammography. Tasks include assisting the patient to complete paper work and make preparations for the x-ray, and making reminder phone calls for the next day’s appointments. Monday through Thursday 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Chemotherapy Unit
Photocopy, collate and put together patient packages. Once a month – 1 to 2 hours
CPR Host or Hostess
Working in the Central Patient Registry area of Cowichan District Hospital. Volunteers greet the public coming into the area ensuring they are in the correct treatment line. They assist to maintain organization and serenity in the waiting room. Hours – Monday to Friday 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.; 10 a.m.– Noon; Noon – 2 p.m.

Friendly Links
Be a friend, a visitor, or a companion to two or three residents who need some extra TLC. Minimum of 2 hours per week as arranged.
Meal Companions
Assist to make mealtime a little more enjoyable for the resident. Tasks range from providing companionship and encouragement to feeding the resident who is no longer able to manage alone. Two-hour shift daily once or twice a week as arranged.
Parent Present in ORPAR
Assist the parent and the child to prepare for the operation and for the recovery room stage following, Volunteers assist to provide a calm environment and support for the parent and child during a fearful time. Wednesday or Friday 7:00 a.m. – 2: p.m.
Cuddler
Comfort a tearful or frightened child, play games with a lonely child, or rock a fretful baby. This is an on-call position. Requests are infrequent.
Medical Imaging Host/ess
Direct patients to changing rooms, assist with clothing fasteners or shoe laces if necessary, tidy waiting room and change rooms. Assist with other related tasks. Tuesday and Thursday 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Elder Friendly Hospital Initiative
Assist Occupational Therapy provide enhancement activities for patients awaiting placement to another facility or who are in need of long hospital stays. Activities include but not limited to reading, crossword puzzles, and other individual activities. There will also be opportunities to work with small groups.
Auxiliary to Cowichan District Hospital
Members assist with fundraising and various in-service activities that provide care and comfort for the patients and residents at Cowichan District Hospital and Cairnsmore Place.
