All volunteer applicants will have an acceptable criminal record and background check.
Qualifications
Our minimum commitment is three months, generally one - two hour shift each week. If a volunteer chooses to become a member of the CR Hospital Auxiliary (optional), there is a $6.00 yearly fee.

Snowbird Program
Are you a traveller, retired or away for periods of time, but want to volunteer at the hospital? Then the Snowbird Program is for you!
If you are able to make an ongoing commitment to the Hospital Volunteer program, despite being away for bits of time, the Hospital is open to working with your schedule.
We need you to help us provide our services, fill our volunteer positions, and it is important for us to find the right fit to make your volunteer opportunities rewarding and successful!

looking for on-call volunteers that have sewing machines to sew CRH name/department patches on to scrubs, or have a digital embroidering machine to embroider CRH name/department on to scrubs as a cost saving measure.

Meal Assistance Volunteer
Assist patients who are unable to feed themselves independently at breakfast, lunch and/or supper. Training to start in May, Program to start June 1st.
Shifts: Monday to Sunday - 630am to 830am; 1130am to 130pm; or 500pm to 700pm.

Nursing Support - Alternate Level Care Ward (the elderly)
Volunteers support Nursing staff with the provision of health care through direct, quality of life care for patients waiting for a permanent placement to a care facility. Duties include serving coffee/tea and snacks to patients, visiting and engaging patients in activities. For example, painting fingernails; taking patients for walk (roll) throughout hospital, to gift shop or onto grounds; reading newspapers or magazines to individuals; playing Wii with patients; and writing letters to loved ones.
Shift: One shift per week - Monday to Friday - 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

P.A.R.T.Y Program Host/Hostess
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program is a dynamic, interactive injury prevention, educational health promotion program for teenagers. Volunteers will ensure that the students participate in the P.A.R.T.Y. program at CRH move through each of the four stations in the program in a timely, calm and respectful manner.
Shift: Once per month (dates pre-established), 0830am to 1230pm.

P.A.R.T.Y Rehab Disability Station Volunteer
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program is a dynamic, interactive injury prevention, educational health promotion program for teenagers. Volunteers will facilitate a 25 minute education session which provides students of the P.A.R.T.Y. program with a glimpse of the consequences of their risky choices.
Shift: Once per month (dates pre-established), 0830am to 1230pm.

Receptionist - Healthy Beginning Breast Feeding Clinic
The volunteer will assist nursing staff with the administration of the Healthy Beginnings Breastfeeding clinic by acting as a receptionist for new moms and their babies. Typical duties include: greeting and making clients feel welcome; keeping reception area tidy; signing in clients and babies; weighing babies; some paper work.
Shifts are either Tuesdays 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm or Fridays 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Receptionist - Quadra Outpatient Lab
This position is ideal for someone living on Quadra Island. The volunteer greets patients, ensures they have a requisition form with them, instructs patients to prepare for lab technician while waiting to be called, assists lab technicians to identify patients, and helps with some paperwork.
Shift: Wednesdays 8:00 am to 11:45 am

Receptionist - Sunshine Wellness Centre
Greet clients coming into the outpatient care area, directing them to the appropriate services ( Diabetic Education, Aboriginal wellness, Cast Clinic, Cancer Care, Medical Daycare, etc), serving refreshments to staff, restocking supplies, putting together educational packages, other tasks.
Shifts: Monday to Thursday - 9am to Noon.

Relaxation Therapy Volunteer
The purpose of this program is to help patients relax and to provide pain relief for people undergoing medical treatment. The volunteer provides on-the-spot treatments, approximately 20 minutes in length in a variety of settings throughout the Hospital: Outpatient Cancer Care, Medical Day Care, Daycare Surgery, Endoscopy and Emergency.
*** Candidates must be certified in Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch or Reiki prior to applying for this position. ***
Shifts: Monday to Friday - 8:00 am to 10:00 am, 10:00 am to Noon, or 1pm to 3 pm.

Street Reach Greeter
Volunteers provide direction to connect visitors (predominantly homeless) with various service providers and health care volunteers at the One-stop Drop-in @ the Salvation Army LiteHouse.
Shift: 2nd Tuesday of the Month, Noon to 4pm.

Street Reach Foot Care
Volunteers support Nursing staff with health care by providing basic foot massage with lotions to clients (predominantly homeless0< encouraging clients to seek further medical attention, as needed; creating an opportunity for clients to relax in a non-judgmental environment.
Shift: 2nd Tuesday of the Month, Noon to 4pm.

Thrift Shop Volunteers
Volunteers help in a variety of ways: sorting donations, floating, or cashiering. All proceeds from this shop (over $100,000 annually), run entirely by volunteers, goes towards the Campbell River Hospital.

Writer
The Volunteer will write impactful and engaging brochures, web clips, and media releases that the powerful stories highlighting Hospital Volunteers, the impact they have, and positions available, in order to recruit and retain volunteers. Applicants must provide samples of their writing ability that is engaging and motivating.
