Campbell River & District General Hospital
All volunteer applicants will have an acceptable criminal record and background check.
Qualifications
Our minimum commitment is three months, generally one - two hour shift each week. If a volunteer chooses to become a member of the CR Hospital Auxiliary (optional), there is a $6.00 yearly fee.

Snowbird Program
Are you a traveler, retired or away for periods of time, but want to volunteer at the hospital? Then the Snowbird Program is for you!
If you are able to make an ongoing commitment to the Hospital Volunteer program, despite being away for bits of time, the Hospital is open to working with your schedule.
We need you to help us provide our services, fill our volunteer positions, and it is important for us to find the right fit to make your volunteer opportunities rewarding and successful!

Education Coordinator for Volunteers
The Education Coordinator for Volunteers will, in consultation with the CR Hospital Coordinator of Volunteers, plan, coordinate and facilitate four (4) education workshops for Hospital Volunteers between September and June. This is to assist with:
· attracting and retaining long-term Hospital volunteers that provide appropriate, understanding and compassionate care to patients, and
· supporting Hospital employees by reducing their workload.

Hospital Visitors
Looking for people of Aboriginal, Asian (South, East, Central), African or Central/South American descent (or other) or the LGBT community to visit hospital patients.
Shifts: Monday to Sunday afternoons and evenings.

Entertainers
Do you have hidden talents that could brighten the stay of a hospital patient? We are looking for clowns, musicians, puppeteers, or other ‘quieter’ entertainers to visit patients (and staff!). Shifts: Mon – Sun afternoons and or evenings

New Volunteer Orientation Trainer
The Volunteer will provide an orientation session to new Hospital Volunteers that explains the volunteer’s roles and responsibilities, expectations and relevant policies. Topics include confidentiality, emergency procedures, infection control, role in patient care, etc. The ideal candidate for this position will be a retired Campbell River Hospital health professional or physician.
Shifts: 2 afternoons per month

P.A.R.T.Y Program Host/Hostess
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program is a dynamic, interactive injury prevention, educational health promotion program for teenagers. Volunteers will ensure that students participating in the P.A.R.T.Y. program at CRH move through each of the four stations in the program in a timely, calm and respectful manner.
Shift: Once per month (dates pre-established), 0830 – 1230 hrs.

P.A.R.T.Y Rehab Disability Station Volunteer
The P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) Program is a dynamic, interactive injury prevention, educational health promotion program for teenagers. Volunteers will facilitate a 25 minute education session which provides students of the P.A.R.T.Y. program with a glimpse of the consequences of their risky choices.
Shift: Once per month (dates pre-established), 0830 – 1230 hrs.

Relaxation Therapy
Provide either healing or therapeutic touch to outpatients receiving in-hospital cancer treatment. Applicant must already possess a minimum of Level 1 Kreiger-Kunz Therapeutic Touch, Healing Touch or Reiki
Shift: Monday – Fridays
8am – 10am – Surgical, ER
10am – 12pm – Cancer Care, Medical Day Care, Surgery
1 – 3pm – Wards

Scheduler of Thrift Shop Volunteers
This volunteer will provide valuable background support to the Hospital Thrift Shop by scheduling volunteers to cover all shifts. Thanks to community donations, Campbell River Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop raises approximately $150,000/year to purchase equipment and fund projects for the Campbell River Hospital. To process the large quantity of donations requires more than 150 volunteer shifts to be covered.
Shifts: approximately 10 hours weekly, flexible, can be done from home

Street Reach Greater
Volunteers provide direction to connect visitors with various service providers and health care volunteers at the One-Stop Drop-in @ the Salvation Army LightHouse.
Shift: 2nd Tuesday of the Month, Noon – 4pm

Street Reach Foot Care
Volunteers support Nursing staff with health care by providing basic foot massage with lotions to clients (who are predominantly homeless), encouraging clients to seek further medical attention, as needed; creating an opportunity for clients to relax in a non-judgmental environment
Shift: 2nd Tuesday of the Month, Noon – 4pm

Sorting and pricing donations, some cleaning and straightening of shop, sales
Shift: Variety of times between 6am and 2:30pm or 7 – 9pm Monday - Sunday
